CASEing the Catty Blog Hop - Graduation

Hi there and welcome to CASEing the Catty Friday Night Blog Hops! We are focusing our attention on the Graduation Section on page 45 of the Occasions Catalogue.

My inspiration comes from the treat bags that have a Graduation Cap on the packaging and I needed to make my daughter a very belated card to celebrate her Arts Degree in Theatre.  My little Top Note Owl Cards were staring at me while I sat at my craft desk wondering where my mojo had gone and what on earth I would make this time around.  I was thinking that I needed to find another die as a substitute because the good old faithful Top Note is about to 'retire'.  The closest in my stash was the Deco Labels Collection Framelits and so this is how the latest version of my owl card turned out -

Deco Labels Punch Art Graduation Owl Card

Tutorial for 'Deco the Grad Owl'

Project Recipe:
Stamp Set:  Celebrate Today
Card Stock:  Soft Suede, Bermuda Bay, Basic Black, Very Vanilla, Calypso Coral
Ink:  Soft Suede
Accessories:  Deco Labels Collection Framelits, Birthday Bash Specialty DSP, Basic Pearls, Sponge Daubers, Squares Collection Framelits
Punches:  3/4", 1", 1-3/8" and 2-1/2" Circle Punches, Sweetheart, Heart from Itty Bitty Accents Punch Pack, Bird Builder, 1-3/4" Scallop Circle

1.  Cut out 4 of the largest sized labels. On one label, score a horizontal line about 3/4" (2cms) up from the middle points and on another, cut instead of score.
2.  Glue the cut label up against the score line of the other label to form the base of the owl's head. Cut out two birds and attach for the ears as shown in the above photo.
3.  Glue the two complete labels into position to form the body of the owl. The photo above shows what the inside of the card looks like at this stage.
4.  Punch out a 2-1/2" circle from DSP for the owl's belly.
5.  Attach the scallop circles with dimensionals to form the wings.  Punch out the eyes and nose and assemble as shown.
6.  Glue the punched hearts onto the inside of both sections of the lower body, lining them up so the card stands up straight.

7.  Make the cap from the 2-1/2" Circle Punch and the fourth square of the framelits as shown.  Add a tassel to the middle of the square.
8.  Stamp a sentiment on the inside of the card and that's all there is to it.

So Bright and colourful, thanks for all the great photos. I tend to shy away from punch art but your photos make it look do-able. So cute, and congratulations to your daughter!
